I'm a life-long, primarily self-taught artist who has gone through many transformations during my artistic journey. What started out as early childhood drawings on scraps of paper, slowly became something more. In my early teens I picked up the first paint brush and found my 'holy grail' for artistic expression. Although, I occasionally dabble in photography and still find great joy in drawing, painting remains my favorite creative outlet. There's just something magical about watching a blank canvas transform into something rich and life-like!
I studied art at Montana State University and The University of Great Falls, from which I earned a BFA. However, I found that my highly realistic approach was not well received by the instructors…a situation that discouraged me from pursuing art for many years following graduation. Thankfully, my path has come full circle and I am once again working toward my dream of being a full time, working artist without feeling the need to apologize for what I paint or how I paint it.
My early paintings were primarily western art, landscapes, and wildlife, but in the past 10 years, I have really found my niche as a portrait artist. I am frequently commissioned for portrait work and take great pleasure in bringing new life to iconic people and characters from pop culture. My 'Trek' paintings and the John Wayne series have been a huge success. I am currently spending a lot of time in the studio and hope to add a gallery or two to my resume this spring.
In addition to creating art, I teach local painting and drawing classes.
The past has been a tremendous learning experience and the future is bright! I intend to continue painting the things that feed my soul and bring joy to others, be it Captain Kirk, wild horses or somebody's mother. A word of advice.....follow your dreams and don't be afraid to BE what you were meant to be. I was meant to be an artist.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my art. If you would like to purchase an original painting or a personally signed print directly from me, give me a call (406) 277-3044.
